Lincoln Heritage Funeral Advantage
The main product offered by Lincoln Heritage Life Insurance is the “funeral advantage” which is also known as final expense insurance. This is different from the traditional term or whole policies, and it’s often known as “funeral or burial insurance.
The Lincoln Heritage Life Insurance Funeral Advantage program has two main areas:
Cash Death Benefit
If you’re between 40 and 85, it doesn’t take much to qualify for the cash death benefit with Lincoln Heritage. You’ll just need to answer a few health questions, and you won’t need to have any examinations. Even if you have a pre-existing health issue, you can often still qualify.
Remember, if any of these answers are inaccurate, your family may be denied a payout.
Based on your answers, you’ll either receive immediate coverage or will be offered a modified plan. The modified plan has a waiting period of 2 years if you’re under 50 years old, or 3 years if you’re older than 50.
Basically, if you pass during this time, your beneficiaries would only receive a limited payout (typically just a return of your premiums plus interest of 10-30%).
If you were diagnosed or treated with any of the below during the past two years, you’ll qualify for the modified plan, and won’t be eligible for immediate coverage:
- Complications related to diabetes (e.g blindness or amputation)
- Alzheimer’s
- Dementia
- ALS
- Kidney, liver, or lung disease
- Cancer
- Coronary artery disease
- Heart disease
Family Support Services
Family support services are free with Lincoln Heritage Life Insurance Company. Basically, the company will arrange for a representative from the Funeral Consumer Guardian Society to help your family.
This can be hugely comforting since the company handles the payment the way the family requests. The representative will also provide advice as they navigate this difficult time.
Benefits
The levels of benefits can reach up to $20,000. The company claims that benefits are paid within as little as 24 hours once they approve your claim. Your family can also receive up to $100,000 in additional benefits if your death is accidental.
As long as you make your payments regularly and on time, your benefits and rates are locked in for life.
Lincoln Heritage also has a few riders and add-ons that you can choose, often at additional cost on your monthly premiums. This optional coverage can give you additional benefits both while you’re still alive, and after you pass away. You will pay increased premiums, but they can be well worth it. Some options include:
- Auto expense protection
- Healthcare system assistance
- Plans for medical bill reduction
- Protection against identity theft
- Pharmacy, vision, and dental discount plans
- Coverage for children
- Accidental death and dismemberment
Costs
According to an industry survey in 2015, the average premium for funeral/burial insurance was $719.
Lincoln Heritage Life Insurance is close to the average if you haven’t had any health problems or you’re middle-aged. However, if you do only qualify for the company’s modified insurance plan, you can expect their prices to be much higher than their closest competitors.
Having coverage for funeral costs is an important consideration, however, Lincoln’s Funeral Advantage is much more expensive for people with health conditions. This is typical for most insurance companies since they’re focused on reducing risk and collecting payments for as many years as possible.

Drawbacks
Lincoln Heritage has a solid reputation, particularly when it comes to customer service. However, since the company only offers a single policy type, and doesn’t offer any other types of life insurance, many people may instead choose an insurance company that can give them more coverage.
However, Lincoln Heritage is also part of a larger group that sells other insurance policies.
Another potential issue is the cost of your policy. If you’re young and healthy, you’ll usually receive a good offer for your premiums. But because this insurance doesn’t require a medical exam, you can expect it to be a little more expensive- particularly for those who are older or who have previous health issues.
Wrapping Up
When it comes to life insurance, we recommend shopping around. Compare a few other companies while you’re looking into your final expense insurance to see if the company’s rates are competitive.
We’re committed to helping you find the best possible insurance plan for your needs.
